What to expect
At the Laser Hair & Skin Center we believe in taking an individual approach for each patient. We begin with a consultation, during which we look at the current skin management regimen. The full medical history of the patient is taken and an examination of the skin is carried out to assess the current condition. We then inform the patient about the products and treatments which may be beneficial to them. We may offer some sample products for testing at this stage. We always encourage people to consider all the information before embarking on any course of treatment, although it is usually possible to start treatment at the same visit if so desired by the patient.
How it Works
The Regenlite acne treatment focuses on three steps:
1. Initially the laser light kills the acne bacteria, which causes the infection and lesions. The whole face is treated killing bacteria over a wide area and reducing the risk of infection spreading and further break-outs.
2. Stimulation of the body’s natural wound healing response and dermal collagen production, which accelerates the resolution of the spots and lesions and reduces the appearance of any scars.
3. The laser stimulates release of TGFβ. This is a cytokine, which is uniquely important in the process of regulating inflammation. It is also intimately involved in the development of immune tolerance. This molecule reduces the inflammation of the acne spots and then prevents the formation of new ones.
Total Skin Health Maintenance
As with skin rejuvenation, the process of successfully managing the symptoms of acne is a three-stage process of preparation, repair, and maintenance. Missing out or not performing adequately, one of these stages may reduce results.
During consultation our skin care consultants will advise you of the combination of different treatment options that will be needed to address these three stages. These might include other noninvasive resurfacing treatments such as microdermabrasion, peels, or oxygen facials, as well as products to enhance the surface texture of the skin
How Long Will My Treatment Take?
Treatment itself is very fast, taking 30-60 minutes for a full facial treatment depending on your advised treatment package, and is totally safe leaving no signs of treatment on the skin surface. This is because the laser works on the tissues below the skin surface. As a result you may have a treatment at your lunch break and return to work with no visible signs of treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments with Regenlite will depend on your individual condition. This will be discussed during consultation, including possible combination treatments that could enhance your results. A typical course will involve a minimum of 3 laser treatment sessions. We schedule one treatment every 2-4 weeks. After a package or series you would then be placed on a maintenance schedule.
Pricing for the Regenlite is a la carte or a package of 3 or more at a discount.
What will my skin look like after the treatment?
Immediately after your treatment there will be little or nothing to see on the treated skin. However some people do experience mild redness and a warming sensation. Rarely, you may have occasional small bruises scattered around the treated area. These often fade in a few hours to a few days. On sensitive areas such as the neck and or hands, there is a possibility of that you may get a prickly heat type of reaction that settles within 24 hours. You are advised not to take any anti-histamines nor anti-inflammatory drugs to treat these mild symptoms as they may affect the treatment response. Persons with Fitzpatrick Skin Type – IV, V, or VI may experience these effects more frequently but these effects are temporary.
Will my skin feel different after the treatment?
Immediately after treatment your skin may not feel different at all but you may experience a mild itching sensation 30-60 minutes afterwards. DO NOT SCRATCH THE SKIN!!! If your skin is tender due to active breakouts, you may experience a reduction in tenderness as soon as 60 minutes after treatment.
Do I have to do anything with my skin on the day of treatment?
Avoid swimming in a public pool for 2-3 days following treatment. Avoid heavily perfumed creams and avoid perfume for at least 2 days. Makeup can be applied right away if desired. Avoid Aloe Vera, RetinA, and Renova for 7 days before and after treatment. Avoid tobacco and Vitamin A for at least 2 days.
How soon will I see improvement?
Results so far have indicated 3 stages of response. On the day of treatment, you should experience a reduction in tenderness. In the days following, most people find that their existing breakouts resolve rapidly. In the weeks thereafter, there should be an improvement in the irritated areas due to old lesions improving and a reduction of scarring. Occasionally some people experience a flare up of irritation after 2-4 weeks. This will usually resolve on its own.
When will I return for another treatment?
This will have been initially discussed at your consultation, although continual assessment will be made as you progress through treatments and your schedule may be altered slightly to fit individual needs. We recommend 3-5 treatment sessions which are performed once every 2-4 weeks. If you experience a localized breakout in between treatments, you can always return to the clinic to control the area in question.
